Real Food

We are convinced that eating real food is important to health

 What is real food?

  1. Whole foods that are more a product of nature than a product of industry
  2. Lots of fruits and vegetables
  3. Dairy products like milk, unsweetened yogurt, eggs, and cheese
  4. 100% whole-wheat and whole-grains
  5. Seafood (wild caught is the optimal choice over farm-raised)
  6. Only locally raised meats such as pork, beef, and chicken
  7.  Snacks like dried fruit, seeds, nuts and popcorn
  8. All natural sweeteners including honey, 100% maple syrup, and fruit juice concentrates in moderation
Tips to Begin:

A.  Research why real food is important.

B.  Make a plan and talk with your family.  Print out free meal plans and recipes.

C.  Have nourishing snacks available.  If there are unhealthy snacks around, someone will find them (probably me)!

Here is a quick list of snacks we enjoy:
Vegetables
Fruit
Olives
Raw Seeds
Raw Nuts
Smoothies
Veggies with dips, hummus, black bean dip, mustard
Cheese and Crackers
Popcorn
Yogurt with blueberries or other fruit
Crackers and Peanut butter
Trail Mix
Plain Rice Cakes with Peanut butter
Corn Meal Mush (Hasty Pudding)
Hard-boiled egg

D.  Join in the journey with friends and family, for support and encouragement.  Follow this blog and other blogs that promote real food.

E.  Celebrate now and then!
