The other night, time stood still at our house. It was 7:35 p.m. We were sitting in the living room. The oldest boys and Mike were playing guitar. Mike said they could play for five more minutes, and then it was time to start getting ready for bed. I was working at the computer. They just kept on playing music. I stopped what I was doing and took some pictures to remember the special fun everyone was having.
I was getting tired and said, "Boy, it feels really late. I can't believe it is only 7:30." No one was paying attention, they just kept on playing music. Then, suddenly, in the middle of a song, Mike burst out laughing. Then, he said, "Look at the clock!" It was still 7:35! The clock was not moving. Bedtime, came and went. It was about two hours later! Those precious moments of enjoying the music, singing, and laughing together were embraced because time stood still.
I need to allow time to stand still more often, embracing the events of the day without rushing on. Being task-oriented pushes me on to get each task done. I want each school subject to be completed, and with speed! However, precious moments are often missed for the sake of the task.
I want to be thankful. Embrace the moments. Take time for what is important.
