Anyone for rock hard rye bread? I found the perfect recipe! Actually, I know I messed it up somehow. Maybe it was that I copied it wrong. Maybe it was that I couldn't find cracked whole rye and added whole wheat kernels instead (they crack in your mouth when you bite into the bread). Maybe it was that I was supposed to mix it up and let it rise 3-6 hrs, but we decided to go away for the day, so I put it in the refrig. and let it rise when we got home. Or maybe it was that I put it above the wood stove on the mantle to rise (it got a little too toasty up there). When the list is that long, it is no wonder that I have hard bread sitting on the counter. Mike said, "Wow, that was really interesting! Thank you for letting me try that!" He is so kind, or maybe just very hungry.
It is all part of the journey. I do want to find a good recipe for wheat sourdough bread. I know my Aunt Sharyn has one. I should have asked her in the first place.
